Chairman of the Bored

"Describe what Marcellus Wallace looks like!"
"What!"
"Say what again. SAY WHAT AGAIN. I dare you, I double dare you, motherf*er. Say what one more goddamn time"
"He is black... bald..."
"Does he look like a b*tch?"

67th Golden Globe

I watched the entire award show first time in my life because Ricky Gervais was hosting it. However, the expectation for him to be funny, turn out to be a flop. He made some lame jokes about his own private part, which is... not cool.

Anyway, call me old school, but HOW COULD AVATAR WON over Inglorious Basterds? Avatar is just a high tech version of Pocahontas. "Man walked into the jungle, man fell in love, man stay happily ever after in the jungle". Come on! There's no memorable acting, no conversations that could make any impact at all. Also, what's all the fuss "make the connection" with the fiber optics jutting out from each others tail, with certain kind of self-melting mechanism to do the bonding, never mind the 3D technology too, it made my eye teary throughout the whole show. I was suck into this whirlpool of hype, and yet, I found it has no originality, and definitely think it's overrated, over-hype! Rubbish.

But I am glad my favorite character in Inglorious Basterds, that's right, "Monsieur LaPadite, I regret to inform you I have exhausted the extent of my French.... " Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor. His acceptance speech with his signature voice sound like he had murder few Jews before accepting the award, like he was still in the spell-binding movie, Awesome!

Let the record play

Standing right there listening to The Beatles and Jefferson Airplane playing on Ahmet's records, I realized I had been living in misery all this while. It just hit me that instant how good music should be. I started hating my-ever-so-proud mp3 collections' sounds like. Hate the sound with a passion, hate them with a vengeance! Thinking they sound like bunch of chipmunks trying to sound good, seriously evoked my nausea from the unmelodious, flat sound coming out of my speaker.

Who knows, I will surrender myself to a turntable instead.

Life After Exam.

Life after exam, it's very mind-bobbling. Cause all I could think of towards the end of my evening, is to decide which movie to watch. Too many movies, just too little time. *head-shaking in mild despair*

The Reader

If you are a fan of Kate Winslet's boobs, this is definitely a movie for you. She is showing off her body throughout the whole movie. Story begins with her having sexual affairs with a 15 year old boy, it turns out that Kate Winslet was one of the Nazi's guard during World War II, so after she suddenly disappeared after summer, she reappeared being prosecuted on court for murdering 300 Jewish women. That boy once upon a time, witness the court case as a law student, never stop loving her until the day he grew old and she died.

Movie starts with intense love scenes. Bombard you scene after scene like terrorist attack on the screen. I somehow doubted I was watching the "wrong-type-of-movie". Love and romance was never my cup of tea. This movie doesnt change my mind.

Changeling

There's just no reason to hate or envy Angelina Jolie with her sexy lips. Her acting truimph it all. She as an ordinary working mum, played a strict but loving mom, found her son gone missing after a long day at work. Story based on a true story. Her son gone missing and corrupted police force are too occupied being corrupted. I would not include spoilers here. Wonderful twist in the movie, not to be missed movie.

Angelina Jolie was suppose to be a lady, a mom in the 1920's era. Soft-spoken and Oh-th0se-amazing-hats-she-wearing and to tolerate the male chauvinism. However, you can see a little bit of Girl Interrupted Angelia Jolie when she was thrown into the psychiatric ward and also that wee bit of Tomb Raider in the way she walks confidently in that movie. This gives the balance of being too goodie-too-shoes. It's no wonder the Oscar's nomination for best actress.

Religulous

A documentary about Christianity, Jewish, Islam, Catholics, Mormon and Sciencetology by Bill Maher. The message of this movie was to encourage people to have doubts towards what they are believing. It's hilarious how he documented and presented the whole story. Like sarcasticly showing dinosaur in Flintstone to prove man and dinosaur coexisted thus no evolution of human from ape, man and animal were created within the 7 days! He made a lot of assumptions for example "What if Jack and the Beansprout is religion and Adam and Eve or Jonah living in the big fish for 3 days or Virgin birth are fairytales?" He agitated most of the people he asked.

Hilarious!

On the way, Frost/Nixon, Grand Tarino, Hunger, Milk...

Too many movies... too little time... *more head-shaking with fierce despair*

Shine A Light

Went to the big screen today. Figured out I somehow deserved some time doing my own stuff instead of waking up from bed, stuck in front of the pc until the moment I went to the bed. Except occasionally break for coffee or snack or lunch time while revising some stupid joke from old season of Southpark. But my point is, I need to get my butt out of the chair avoiding cellulite-prone consequences!!

Ahmet suggested this movie. We wanted to watch Red Cliff but the movie is Chinese, subtitle is Jap, so... English movies are compromise.

Shine A Light, concert movie of Rolling Stones by Martin Scorsese!

I dare to say who doesnt know Rolling Stones? Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ron Wood. you hear their names so often you might think it's a religion. However, embarrassing enough, I actually doesnt listen to their song that much. But, things started to change now.

It gave me goose bumps for the concert opening song. In a good way of course. Bill Clinton was in the movie introducing the group as his global warming charity. The cinematography was so good that it makes you feel you are actually one of the audience. After each song, you have the urge to clap your hands and scream your lungs out. A few attempts, I have to remind myself, it's a cinema theater instead of a real concert.

There are a few guest stars on the show, like Jack White from The White Stripes,

Jack White from The White Stripes. Photo Source: Oliver Wolcott Library

He looks and sound exceptionally humble beside the glorious Rolling Stones, and when he started to sing, it was kidda let down on the expectation on his vocals. A few times, you could also see him awkwardly trying to kiss Mick Jagger, not sure....

Then it's Buddy Guy.

This guy! one word, WUAH!!!!

Did some background check on him, quote "Buddy Guy is five time grammy winner, inspiration to Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton.... " He was merely playing guitar on the first verse, I wasnt expecting him to sing or anything, but suddenly he approached the mic, WUah!!!! Still wow-ing now.

Christina Aguilera also did a cameo, her vocal. Fantastic!

The camera, hook on Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Of course, on and off some old interview Rolling Stones did. It's more a concert than a documentary. There's not many backstage scene. Martin Sorcesese appeared in the show fretting that everything was not done until the last minute of the concert in New York. (It seems Martin Sorcesese is a very detailed director). It was hectic and complaints and frustration from him claiming it's very difficult to work with diva band. In the end, once the music start, everything just got lost in the music. Rolling Stone, all of them are dy so old, but they enjoy what they do so much, people feel their vibes too.

Also, remember Johnny Depp said his Pirates character is based on Keith Richards' character? Well, no wonder I have the image of Johnny Depp the pirate is playing guitar.

Nevertheless, 122 mins of good music and awesome concert.

Ponyo Ponyo

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (崖の上のポニョ, Gake no Ue no Ponyo) by Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away) is my new favourite animated film by Ghibli Studio.

Reason *1

Ponyo doesnt like bread, but she likes ham! (ハムが大好き!)

Reason *2

Ponyo has super cool parents.

Reason *3

Ponyo has super lovely sparkling eyes!

Reason *4

Ponyo treasures emergency light during current blackout.

This animation is about a fish name ponyo. A boy named Sosuke rescued her from the sea after she was stuck in a bottle. Ponyo's dad went frantic after he found out Ponyo ran away from home, caught her back, and then, she ran away again. (BAD PONYO!) This time, she came back as a 5 year-old girl. Then..... they kiss... then the end.

Love it, because Ponyo is just too adorable!

Radiohead In Rainbows Japan Tour'08

After months of waiting, The day was finally here! 8th Oct 2008.

Hall A

Venue was in Tokyo International Forum. The place was amazing. Right after stepping out of the train station, we saw people helding up cardboards, wishing somebody might give up Radiohead tickets to them. I could had been money minded, selling my tickets at twice the price I bought them.

Tokyo International Forum

We were inside the hall kidda early. Kiasu-mah.

Main Hall, Capacity of 5k

The opening act is by an electronic music band from Berlin call Modeselektor. It was not enough to warm up the crowds.

Modeselektor

So, we rushed out the venue after the opening act, gulped down two cups of beer, rushed to the toilet, and dashed back to the scene. The stage's background changed.

Pipes dangling down from stage ceiling

Then moments later, Thom Yorke and crew walked out. The crowds gone mad. Without any words, they straight away play 15 step from In Rainbow album.

The most memorable moments are You and Whose Army, Electioneering and Paranoid Android. Too bad they did not play Fake Plastic Tree that day which was one of my fav. No matter, it was definitely a very memorable gig.

Video will be uploaded later. :)

Knight not in Shining Amour - The Dark Knight

Heigh Ledger's performance was outrages! It was so damn good, it made me wanna do that little tongue movement to lick my own lips whenever I feel evil! However, as always, the villain in Batman series always draw more attention and are way more interesting than the Batman himself. This time, it's no difference. Evil rules!

I didnt know Edison Chen was in the movie until I saw the credits. For those who didnt know, he was once famous for his sex scandal in Hong Kong, where someone leaked out his photos with so many major famous actress. Maybe because of this, he didnt have any dialogue in the movie? And I didnt even realise where did he appeared. And Wong Wai (The cop who was Batman-struck and went expression-less after Batman flew away from the window, maybe it was a communication breakdown coz Batman was speaking English instead of his bad-acting ....... ) Hmmph, I dunno who he was, but camera was showing his face for full 3 seconds, I reckon he could be someone famous.

Credits for Chin Han - A singaporean who speaks perfect English, but spoke Mandarin in Hong Kong. Yeah, I do realised the evil plan of Hollywood trying to get more Asian market's favors, but do not bother to differentiate Mandarin and Cantonese.

Credits for Hans Zimmer as the music score composer. (also for The Simpsons, I am Sam, The Prestige...)

One problem I have for the movie, Why don't they make batman to have a more sexy voice instead of that hoarse, deep, low, monotone, feel-like-slapping-Batman-after-hearing-his-voice kind of voice? I mean, Come on!!

First time cinema in Japan. I really admired the Japanese people, they are so polite to sit through the whole credits to show appreciations to the people who made the movie. In Malaysia, whenever I tried to sit through the credits just to listen to the music, the sweeping workers will come sweep sweep your feet.

Hp's vacation

Did I mentioned my mobile loves Fukushima so much that she decided to ditch me, stay a lil` while longer in Fukushima. Bad Mobile! Bad!

However, she is back. In an envelope. Found her lying in my mailbox this morning.

With a lil note.

::wink::

Just got back Karaoke with classmates. Awesome session. First song was Christina's Reflection and all of us was screaming our lungs out for Pink Floyd Another Brick in the Wall. I must admit Kaiser Chiefs Ruby Ruby Ruby was a bit tricky. I realised I didnt have Yours truly Angry Mob in my Winamp. So sad.

Elephant says hi.

I so wanna get this to hang outside my door. Maybe changing the 営業 (on business) to 休む (vacation) .
